Local Business Owner LaShana Lewis Named to NSBA Leadership Council
ST. LOUIS – LaShana Lewis, CEO and founder of L. M. Lewis Consulting in St. Louis, MO was recently named to the National Small Business Association (NSBA) Leadership Council. NSBA is the nation’s oldest small-business advocacy organization, and it operates on a staunchly nonpartisan basis. Lewis, a recognized leader in the small-business community, joins the NSBA Leadership Council alongside other small-business advocates from across the country as they work to promote the interests of small business to policymakers in Washington, D.C.
“Every day, I see the importance of being actively involved when it comes to laws and regulations,” stated Lewis. “Joining NSBA’s Leadership Council will enable me to take our collective small-business message to the people that need to hear it most: Congress.”
Lewis has been working in the technology, diversity and nonprofit industries for over 20 years. Her company, L. M. Lewis Consulting, aims to make companies and nonprofits more equitable, technologically advanced and community-focused. She has recently served as Director of the St. Louis Equity in Entrepreneurship Collective, an organization focused on building systems of race and gender equity for St. Louis' early-stage, entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Lewis serves as a role model for diversity in technology and has even met with President Barack Obama's administration as part of the nationwide TechHire Initiative (now powered by labor market disrupter, Opportunity@Work), which encouraged employers to hire and train people with non-traditional tech backgrounds. Lewis serves as Chair of Opportunity@Work’s STARs Advisory Council. STARS, individuals Skilled Through Alternative Routes, are active in the workforce and have a high school diploma, but not a bachelor's degree.
Lewis joined the NSBA Leadership Council as part of its effort to tackle the many critical issues facing small business, including tax reform, regulatory restraint, health care costs and how the Affordable Care Act will impact small business. The NSBA Leadership Council is focused on providing valuable networking between small-business advocates from across the country while ensuring small business a seat at the table as Congress and regulators take up key small-business proposals.
“I am proud to have LaShana Lewis as part of our Leadership Council,” stated NSBA President and CEO Todd McCracken. “She came to us highly recommended, and I look forward to our coordinated efforts for years to come.”
